What are HHC flowers?

As the name suggests, an HHC flower is a hemp flower containing a high concentration of hexahydrocannabinol. While HHC is present in minute quantities in the original plant, this cannabinoid as we know it today was conceived in 1947 by Roger Adams. To achieve this, the American chemist hydrogenated a THC molecule. In the process, two hydrogen atoms were added, transforming THC into HHC. Their chemical composition is essentially the same.

It is therefore a laboratory-engineered molecule, giving hexahydrocannabinol the status of a synthetic cannabinoid. Although HHC is often contrasted with certain cannabinoids naturally present in the hemp plant (CBD, CBG, CBN), this molecule is nevertheless often associated with THC. Despite the lack of scientific studies on the subject, we're beginning to learn more about the natural properties of HHC, from the potential benefits of this synthetic cannabinoid to its undesirable side effects.

Potential effects of HHC flowers

Unlike CBD or THC, HHC has not been the subject of many scientific studies. So there's still a long way to go before we know everything there is to know about the effects of hexahydrocannabinol. In the meantime, the few studies carried out on HHC and the opinions of users provide a first glimpse of the potential benefits of this molecule. In particular, HHC is said to be effective against sleep disorders, stress, anxiety, loss of appetite and pain. Its soothing virtues are regularly highlighted.

So how do we explain HHC's potential benefits for the body? In reality, this molecule interacts directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system. These receptors are present in most cells of the human body: central nervous system, immune system, digestive system, lungs, pancreas, liver, adrenal glands, spleen, cardiovascular system, reproductive system, bones, muscles, skin, adipose tissue, etc. In this way, the active ingredients contained in HHC flowers can be diffused throughout the body.

Dangers and side effects of HHC flowers

HHC is a molecule derived from the hydrogenation of THC. This very special process raises a number of questions, particularly concerning the dangers and side effects of HHC. Firstly, hexahydrocannabinol is produced in the laboratory and may therefore contain chemical elements that are hazardous to health. Some of the effects of HHC also appear to be similar to those of THC: euphoric sensation, altered perception of time, and so on. Moreover, the psychoactive effects of HHC now seem to be recognized by researchers.

Due to the lack of scientific studies on the subject, opinions differ as to the psychoactive potential of hexahydrocannabinol. According to some experts, the psychoactive effects of HHC can only manifest themselves when consumed in high doses. Conversely, other scientists consider HHC to be more potent than THC, and even see it as an equivalent of morphine. We still lack the information needed to accurately assess the psychoactive effects of this synthetic cannabinoid.

When it comes to HHC flowers, some practices are healthier than others. Inhalation is certainly the most widespread mode of consumption, but it is also extremely dangerous to health. By smoking HHC flowers, for example, you run the risk of developing one of the many illnesses associated with smoking: throat cancer, lung cancer, cardiovascular accident, nicotine addiction, etc. This is why it's so important to be aware of the risks involved. That's why it's better to use it in other ways (as an infusion, in cooking).

There is still a degree of legal uncertainty surrounding the distribution, sale and consumption of HHC flowers. This is true in most countries where CBD has already been approved. So how do we explain this lack of legislation? First of all, HHC is a very recent arrival on the cannabinoid market. Moreover, this synthetic molecule has not been the subject of many scientific studies. Its potential effects are therefore unproven, which does not encourage the competent authorities to take a decision on the matter.

In the meantime, not all countries authorize HHC in the same way. In France, hexahydrocannabinol is classified as a narcotic like HHC-P and HHC-O (as it is in Belgium and Switzerland). Its sale and consumption are therefore illegal. If you'd like another alternative, consider discovering the best CBD flowers.
