The potency of a CBD oil product depends mainly on its storage. The solution must be kept safe from direct light and exposure to air to get the best benefits.

The temperature also plays a crucial role in the longevity and effectiveness of the product. Higher heat exposure and temperatures can lead to more adverse effects. So, how do you go about it?

Top Factors to Consider When Storing CBD Oil

1. Light

Though most CBD oils come in tinted bottles, it is still essential to avoid exposure to direct sunlight. These tints do not entirely block out harsh or excessive light. Such exposure reduces the potency of CBD oil.

Store the oil in a dark place away from direct light for best results. Read the label and any instructions if you wish to keep it in the fridge.

This is because low temperatures can cause some oils to coagulate. For this reason, you may want to store the oil in a cabinet or drawer. Storing it below the temperature of 20C or 86F is ideal.

2. Air

Exposing CBD oils to the air leads to the CBD reacting with the oxygen in the air. When such a thing occurs, the oxygen molecules break down the cannabinoids, degrading the oil. Airtight containers are a necessary precaution to avoid such a mess. It is crucial to check for an unbroken seal when buying a new product.

Another precaution is to properly cap the bottle after each use so that no air does not pass into the oil.

3. Temperature

Keep CBD oil in a cool place. This is because heat can cause the chemical components in oil to break down.

Heat is the catalyst that activates the properties of cannabis in the first place. Keeping it cool helps avoid such a chemical reaction in the final product. Excessive heat can cause the terpenes and cannabinoids to react, destroying the product potency.

With the wax and fat content in some CBD oils, even refrigeration poses its particular set of problems. Storing it at room temperature is usually the best way to preserve the product.

Can You Store CBD Oil in the Fridge?

The best way to prevent CBD oil from going bad is to avoid exposure to the sun and air. Putting CBD oil in the fridge may seem like a good idea in such cases. However, should you keep them in one, don’t reheat it, and use it quickly.

Many of these products use coconut oil as a carrier oil due to its natural fatty oils. Storing a coconut-based CBD oil under such cold temperatures may cause it to solidify. But it is essential to check the list of ingredients on the bottle before storing CBD oil in the fridge.

Additionally, full and broad-spectrum CBDs contain almost all the extracts of the cannabis plant. This list includes substances like natural waxes and chlorophyll, which the cold will adversely affect.

What is the Shelf Life of CBD Oil?

The shelf life of CBD oil is usually around 18 to 24 months. It can go unspoiled for the specified period, granted that the instructions on the package are correctly followed.

  • The measures to ensure its longevity include strictly avoiding the sun and air exposure.
  • Such a precaution is necessary because CBD oil is a product of nature and contains cannabinoids and terpenes.

Cannabidiol, the compound that CSB oil is named for, is itself a cannabinoid. On the other hand, terpenes are the substances that give the oil its characteristic “grassy” flavor.

Exposing these two substances to sun and air leads the product to degrade. The result is a significantly less potent oil.

Why is Proper Storage Important?

One word- ‘potency' – sums up why proper storage is essential for CBD oils. Since it is a natural product, these oils contain many substances that break down quickly, as they do in nature.

For CBD oils, this includes cannabidiol and terpenes. These are essential ingredients contributing to the flavor and strength of the oil.

Good storage helps the longevity of the products by preventing these compounds from prematurely breaking down.

Protection from heat, light, and air help users get the maximum benefits from the product for the longest time.
